Training Session at Evrenosbey Middle School

As part of the European Union-supported “Inclusive Schools Through Mediation” project, Evrenosbey Middle School carried out a significant training session aimed at fostering peaceful communication and introducing the principles of mediation to students. This event was held ahead of the upcoming international student and teacher meeting in Lagos.

Aligned with the broader goals of the project and in cooperation with its international partners, the school implemented activities under Module 4, specially designed for middle school students who had not previously received any formal mediation training. The program allowed students to enjoy learning through engaging and interactive methods.

Discovering Core Concepts through Games

The training began with a Mediation Puzzle Game, introducing students to key values such as empathy, trust, and impartiality. This activity helped students understand and internalize foundational concepts in a fun and accessible way.

Gaining Experience through Drama and Role Play

One of the most impactful parts of the session was the drama activity titled “If I Were a Mediator.” Students took on the roles of individuals in conflict and acted as mediators, allowing them to translate theoretical knowledge into practical experience.

Creativity and Reflection Activities

The training concluded with a Spinning Wheel Quiz, reinforcing what students had learned. By answering questions, they reviewed essential skills like empathy and active listening. Finally, students expressed their understanding of a mediator’s qualities by designing creative posters.

“Building a Culture of Peace from an Early Age”

Project coordinators emphasized the importance of introducing mediation at a young age, stating that such early exposure opens the door to positive changes in school culture. The program at Evrenosbey Middle School demonstrated how students are empowered not only individually, but also socially through mediation training.

This successful implementation highlighted the school’s commitment to inclusive education and its strong preparation for the upcoming international gathering in Lagos.
